Beyond him, there were a few promising starts but nothing of real substance, with no batter able to kick on. The standout phase was the partnership between Carter and Jonathan van Lange, which steadied the innings after West Indies slipped to 115 for 4 following a dramatic over that cost them three wickets. With the ball, JJ Basson was the star, bowling with control and purpose to finish with a deserved five-wicket haul.
