The Proteas had a cautious start, and just as the openers began to find their rhythm, rain interrupted play 4.3 overs into the innings. The match was subsequently reduced to a 13-over-per-side contest. Ryan Rickelton and Aiden Markram both got starts but couldn't convert them into significant scores. However, Tristan Stubbs, coming in at number 4, injected some much-needed momentum. His explosive 15-ball 40 provided the late surge South Africa desperately needed, pushing their total to 108, which was then DLS-adjusted to a target of 116.
