India vs South Africa Commentary
5:19 PM IST The Indian captain, Suryakumar Yadav, is all smiles. He says that this sport teaches you a lot of things and that it is a great leveller as well. Mentions how you come back into the series is what matters the most. Shares that there were a lot of learnings from the last game and they had a good team meeting as well. Highlights that they went back to the basics. About his lean run with the bat, he states that he is batting beautifully in the nets and is trying to do what's under his control. Is hopeful that the runs will come soon, and ends by saying that he is definitely not out of form, but a bit short of runs.
5:18 PM IST Arshdeep Singh is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his brilliance with the ball. He had figures of 2 for 13 from his 4 overs. Arshdeep says it was about doing the basics right and trusting his skillset. Feels the last game was a one-off and is pleased to have bounced back the way he did. Adds that nothing really changed for him, as it was simply about pitching the ball in the right areas and getting some help from the surface. On a personal note, he says he would like to dedicate the award to his 10-month-old niece, who is present tonight.
5:17 PM IST Such has been the theme of this series that across the three games so far, it has largely been one-way traffic, with whichever side takes control going on to win comfortably. Let’s hope the next two fixtures treat us to more competitive contests. The caravan now shifts to Lucknow, with the fourth T20I set to take place at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, 17th December. The first ball will be bowled at 7 pm IST (1.30 pm GMT), but as always, our build-up will begin much earlier. Until then, take care and goodbye!
5:16 PM IST The captain of South Africa, Aiden Markram, says it was tough upfront, with India bowling in the right areas, and before they knew it, they were four or five down. Credits the Indian pacers for bowling Test-match lengths and feels they did not give the batters much to score. If the conditions are similar again, he admits they will have to find better ways to counter it. Shares that he planned to take the game deep and try to make a play at the end. Adds that a total in the region of 140-150 would have kept them well in the contest. Mentions that he does not want the team to dwell on this loss too much, even though he will look for answers. In conditions like these, he feels you cannot hit everything and have to pick your options carefully. He stresses that he never wants to curb players or use negative language. Believes that each individual will take lessons from this game and come back better. Speaking about Abhishek Sharma, he says he was always likely to play that way, and admits South Africa did not land the ball in the right areas early on. Once they corrected that, they were much better and managed to stretch the game, which he takes as a positive.
5:03 PM IST Time for the presentation ceremony...
5:03 PM IST Varun Chakaravarthy is up for a quick chat with the broadcasters. On being informed about him completing 50 T20I wickets, he starts by admitting that he didn't know that he reached that milestone. Highlights that there was a lot of help for the seamers and that he never played at this venue before. Also admits that he found it a bit challenging in chilly conditions of Dharamsala. Shares that they did have some bowling meetings and honest conversations about what went wrong in the second T20I. Detials that those were two-way talks and went really well. On being asked about how he planned to bowl on this surface, where there was help for the pacers, he details that the ball was skidding more rather than turning, so he just tried to keep the stumps in play. After being made aware that he is the second-fastest Indian bowler to get to 50 wickets in the format, he ends by saying it feels good as long as he is playing for the country and picking up wickets.
