Residents living in the Capital’s 125 unauthorised colonies have one week’s time to reply to the Delhi government’s show-cause notice, regarding not meeting the eligibility criteria of at least 50% construction before 2008.
The urban development department had issued notices to 125 colonies, which were given provisional certificates ahead of the 2008 Assembly elections. A survey report by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) had revealed that these colonies did not meet the criterion of at least 50% construction before 2008 to be eligible for regularisation.
A number of colonies in south, south-west and north Delhi have been served with the notices.
A final colony list has been compiled. Those, which have been issued notices, include Shakti Enclave (Kilokri near Kalindi Colony), Andheri More Extension, Mahipalpur Village Extended Abadi, Kapeshera Extension, Rajokri Village, Ambedkar Nagar Extension, Ashok Nagar Gautam Nagar Hill Block, Laxmi Nagar J and K Extension.
Sources said provisional certificates of these colonies are most likely to get cancelled. Even as show-cause notices have been served, a re-verification survey is being undertaken by the deputy commissioner’s office to ascertain the total built-up area in these colonies.
Besides, the MCD has been sent a copy of the notices, so that it can carry out an independent survey of these colonies. “Notices have been sent to all the colonies. In a week, we will start getting their responses. After evaluating them, we will decide whether to cancel their provisional certificates or not,” said an official.
The notices have been served to the RWAs or societies. While no construction has taken place in some colonies, status report says a number of these colonies have 20% to 30% construction. A total of 1,218 of 1,638 colonies were given provisional certificates in 2008.
