A 15-year-old girl, who reportedly went out on a joyride with her male friend and two others, was killed in a road accident on a flyover behind Indira Gandhi Indoor stadium in central Delhi on Sunday evening, police said.
However, the victim’s family claimed that the girl was kidnapped, sexually assaulted and murdered. A case of rash and negligent driving causing death has been registered at the IP Estate police station and police are waiting for the victim’s autopsy report to ascertain the exact cause of her death. The driver of the SUV has been arrested.
Police said Anisha (name changed) was picked up by her friend Raja from outside her house in Mahavir Park in northwest Delhi’s Azadpur. Apart from Raja, Ravi Shekhar — who was driving the car — and Sanjay, a friend of Shekhar, were there in the car. The SUV belonged to one Robin Gupta, a businessman in Azadpur area, and Shekhar was his driver.
“They were coming towards ITO via W-loop on the Ring road when Shekhar lost control over the car and rammed the railing of the flyover. Anisha suffered injuries to her face and head and was rushed to the Lok Nayak hospital where she succumbed to her injuries,” the officer said.
But Anisha’s family termed police’s version a “cover up”.
“If it is a case of accident how come nobody else suffered even a scratch to their bodies? They kidnapped my daughter and killed her. We suspect she was sexually assaulted before murder ,” said Nisha’s mother Rohini (name changed).
