The fact that Delhi is unsafe for women was once again driven home with a 16-year-old girl being raped by her dance teacher and three others in Vikaspuri area of west Delhi.
This is the sixth rape case that has been reported in less than a week. The rise in number of crimes against women has questioned the police commissioner's remarks that the Capital is safe for women.
The 16-year-old was raped on July 5 at DKS Dance School, in E-block, Lal Market, Vikaspuri.
The incident came to light on July 6 when the girl's parents approached the police to lodge a missing person complaint. In his complaint, the girl's father said that on July 5 the girl had gone to attend her dance classes and had not returned. Initially, the family thought she might have gone to a relative's house. But when she could not be traced, they lodged a complaint.
During investigation, police found that the girl was last seen at the DKS Dance School. On questioning, the dance school staff revealed that Gulshan had kept the girl at his Dabri residence. "We raided Gulshan's Dabri residence and rescued the victim. In her statement, she said she had been raped by Gulshan and three others. The girl's medical examination has confirmed rape," the officer added.
The girl said that after the dance class got over, Gulshan asked her to accompany him to a nearby park. Later, Gulshan brought her back to the dance school where she was raped.
"We have arrested the dance instructor, Gulshan Kumar Sharma (20), who was known to the victim and his friend Ram (22). The other two are juveniles and we have apprehended them, too," said a senior police officer.
Police said they will also question the dance school's owner to check why no security guard had been deployed there.
