An 18-year-old woman was found dead inside a room at a luxury hotel in east Delhi’s Mayur Vihar on Thursday. The woman had checked into the hotel room with her male friend around noon on Wednesday.
Police officials said prima facie they do not suspect any foul play because the room was locked from the inside. Her friend, with whom she had checked into the hotel, had reportedly left the hotel. The police said there were no visible injury marks on the woman’s body, which was found in the toilet .
Investigators said the forensic experts collected some substances from the hotel room that could either be a drug or poison. The police are questioning her 20-year-old friend, who is from Delhi’s Shahdara.
Pankaj Singh, deputy commissioner of police (east), said they are waiting for the woman’s autopsy to ascertain the exact cause of death. “We are waiting for the forensic report that will help us know what was the substance that was found in the hotel room,” DCP Singh said.
An officer associated with the case said the woman had finished her Class 11 from Open School and was working in a beauty parlour in south Delhi. She was living at her relative’s home in Chanakyapuri area. Her parents live in Uttarakhand. She had come in contact with the male friend through their common friend 10 months ago.
Investigation has revealed that on Wednesday she met her male friend and they checked into the luxury hotel in Mayur Vihar. Around 4.30 pm, her friend reportedly left, saying his father was unwell and was admitted to a hospital. He told her that he would be back on Thursday. She was reportedly supposed to wait for him in the hotel room.
The next day, the man tried to reach her on her mobile phone. But his calls went unanswered. He then called the hotel authorities and asked them to check on his friend.
“When the hotel staffers’ repeated knocks at the door went unanswered, they opened the door using the master key,” said the officer. The girl was taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.
