The highly decomposed body of a 28-year-old woman, a native of Kerala, was found in mysterious circumstances in the ground floor of a house in Karol Bagh area of central Delhi.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the woman, whose real name is yet to be verified, had taken the house on rent with the help of a male friend a few days ago to start a massage parlour, police said.
"Her body was highly decomposed, which suggests she died at least 48 hours before we saw her body. The neighbours and the landlord do not know her real name," a senior police officer. He added the body has been sent for post-mortem examination to know the exact cause of death. Sources said the woman is a nurse.
Police said they recovered two mobile phones from the house of which one had a SIM. "A call was received on that number from Turkey and the caller introduced himself as the woman's friend. We had asked him to come and join the investigation. We are currently questioning him to know more about the woman," the officer added.
A police source said though the landlord has said the woman wanted to open a massage parlour, her friend, who has come from Turkey, told the police that she wanted to open a small hospital. "We are going by the statement given by the landlord. Some wood work was also going on in the house she had rented," police said.
Police said the woman's friend said he met her at the Delhi airport a month ago and the two became friends. He then helped her rent this particular house in Karol Bagh. But he doesn't know any details about her family.
"Even the landlord didn't take any details about the woman. He claimed that the process of a rent agreement was going on and he hasn't taken any cash from the woman," source added. Initial reports suggested that there were no external injuries on her body but the police are not ruling out any foul play.
