The Delhi Police have arrested three persons for allegedly kidnapping a 5-year-old child and demanding a ransom of R5 lakh from his family. The child has been returned to the safety of his family.
The police arrested the accused — Mohammad Kasim, 24, Badre Alam, 22, and Raja Hasan Kadri, 20 — from near Filmistan Cinema in central Delhi, where they had come to collect the ransom amount.
Police said they wanted to become rich overnight and had dreamt of leading a lavish lifestyle with the ransom money.
Kasim, police said, was known to the victim’s family. He was a former employee of his uncle, who has a light and decoration business.
Kasim’s father is a reputed ‘moulvi’ at a mosque in east Delhi’s Pandav Nagar area.
Devesh Chandra Srivastava, additional CP (central), said the matter came to their notice on Sunday night after the boy’s father, a resident of Shadipur, made a call to the police control room suspecting the kidnapping of his son.
On the same night, Srivsatava said, the father was called by an unknown person, who demanded R5 lakh for the safe release of his son.
“A case of kidnapping-cum-ransom was registered at the Ranjeet Nagar police station and a team comprising of inspector Satender Mohan and SHO Joginder Singh was constituted to nab the assailants and rescue the victim safely,” said Srivastava.
“The kidnapper had asked the complainant to bring the ransom amount near Filmistan Cinema in an autorickshaw. The investigating officer went undercover as a driver and drove the autorickshaw,” he said, adding, “Kasim and Alam were arrested when they turned up to take the money.”
Their interrogation, Srivastava said, led to the arrest of Kadri who was with the victim at a small house in Sadar Bazar.
