A 35-year-old married woman alleged that she was raped by five persons inside a car near Vijay Nagar in Ghaziabad, police said.
However, the victim later told the police that she intends to withdraw her complaint.
Police have arrested the prime suspect Raju Kumar, 35. The other four suspects are yet to be identified, police said.
An FIR has been lodged and the victim, a mother of one, was sent for medical examination to the MMG Hospital in Ghaziabad, police added. However, her medical examination has ruled out rape.
In her complaint, the victim said the incident occurred on Tuesday night. It was reported to the police on Wednesday, said a police official. The complainant said she had gone to see a doctor at Samrat Chowk near Vijay Nagar area. Five men, including Kumar, bundled her into a car and took her to a deserted place. There they took turns in raping her.
During his interrogation, Kumar said the victim was levelling false allegations. On the contrary, he said, the victim had borrowed a sum of R2,500 from him and threatened to lodge a rape case against him when he asked her to return the amount.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Raghubir Lal said, “We have come to know that the woman had taken a loan from the accused. If the charges are found to be incorrect, we will start court proceedings against her for lodging a false case.”
The victim later sent an application, stating that she intends to withdraw the complaint, said the SSP’s spokesperson.
