A 38-year-old man, Bhupender Chaudhary, who allegedly hammered his son to death on Sunday, was sent to judicial custody for two weeks on Monday, police said.
Chaudhary, in a fit of drunken rage, had brutally hammered seven-year-old Arpit to death.
The police said Chaudhary hit Arpit at least four times on the head with a hammer on Sunday at 1.30pm. He had sent his wife and daughter to collect rent from their tenants.
"He suspected his wife was having an affair with one of the tenants," the officer added.
Chaudhary told the police that he took the step because he suspected that Arpit was not his son. He also suspected that his wife and in-laws planned to kill him. He had been upset over his wife's behaviour and had made three attempts to commit suicide in the past few months, said the officer.
Arpit, a Class 1 student of Greenfield Public School, was playing on the laptop at their house at Humayunpur in Saf-darjung Enclave, when his father attacked him.
The police said Chaudhary tried to escape with the weapon of crime. He was, however, caught by a group of people after his wife raised an alarm.
