4 CP subways to not see light of the day

The plan to construct four more subways in CP’s Outer Circle is all set to get scrapped. The project was proposed ahead of the CWG. The move comes after CAG raised questions about the feasibility of the project, sources said. Moreover, traders too have been resisting the project.
In the original proposal, the plan was to build eight additional subways. “Work on the other four subways is on, but for the rest of the subways, the proposal will have to be brought again in the council. So far, there is no movement in that direction. Even if the proposal is brought, separate permissions will be required from the traffic police,” said a senior NDMC official.
Welcoming the news, Connaught Place traders said there was never a need for eight additional subways in the market. “We are glad the civic agency is planning to forego the plan,” said Atul Bhargava, president of New Delhi Traders Association.
Anti-social elements and water-logging at the existing subways have also acted as a deterrent for the project’s approval.
“CP already has five existing subways and four are under construction. At night, criminals frequent these subways,” said a senior NDMC official.
