Six people were killed, four of them on the spot, when the vehicle in which they were travelling rolled down a deep gorge in Nerwa subdivison of Shimla district here on Saturday.
The deceased included Satish, Ashu, Kaku, Ravi and Sunil, all residents of Narela in Delhi, while the sixth deceased, Chandan, was from Shillai in Sirmour district in Himachal Pradesh. The injured person has been identified as Sarvash Kumar (26) of Delhi.
The local police said they are yet to ascertain the reason behind the accident but preliminary report suggested the driver of the vehicle lost control while negotiating a sharp curve.
Police said the accident took place near Minhas Modh, close to the Uttrakhand border.
The tempo traveller bearing Delhi's registration number (DL4CM- 8119) skidded off the road and rolled down a gorge. The ill-fated vehicle carrying eight passengers was on its way to Delhi.
Shimla superintendent of police (SP) Sonal Mohan Agnihotri said the accident took place at 2pm. According to district police chief, while four persons died on the spot and the other two succumbed to their injuries on their way to a hospital at nearby Nerwa.
The two seriously injured men have been shifted to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) in state capital Shimla, after they were given first aid treatment at Nerwa Hospital.
