Film star Aamir Khan on Wednesday declared his support for anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare's campaign for a strong lokpal bill, saying the proposed ombdusman should be free from the government control.
Khan's support for team Hazare came a day ahead of the group's ambitious exercise to conduct a four-day referendum among seven lakh voters in telecom minister Kapil Sibal's Chandni Chowk constituency.
Nearly two thousand volunteers will visit households with printed forms containing eight questions on major areas of dispute between the government and the Hazare's team. People will be given a questionnaire and they will have to tick their options, Hazare-led India Against Corruption said.
Khan's support for Hazare came in response to the questionnaire sent to him, which contained 20 questions on key issues.
Such questionnaires were sent to 250 people across to the country.
He has supported the view of bringing the Prime Minister, judiciary and MPs under lokpal's purview, but the Bollywood star differed with both Team Anna's and government's views on the selection of lokpal.
Khan said no politician should be in the panel and suggested that it should have four judges and four independent constitutional authorities.
Hazare's team had proposed a selection committee of two politicians, four judges and two independent constitutional authorities, whereas the government's draft has a selection team which consists of six out of ten members directly from the ruling establishment.
