The name of Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi has been dropped by a Delhi court from the list of witnesses in a complaint for prosecution of social activist Anna Hazare and his team members for allegedly instigating public against government during their anti-graft campaign last year.
Metropolitan Magistrate Anil Kumar dropped Singhvi's name saying that the Rajya Sabha member was made witness for "sensationalising" the matter.
The court withdrew its order summoning Singhvi on a plea by the parliamentarian, who said he had been made witness (without his consent) by Haryana resident Satbir in his complaint.
"I find nothing in the complaint as to how he (Singhvi) is relevant in the present case or what facts have been witnessed by him," the court said.
While noting that Singhvi's name was not mentioned correctly in the application, the court said, "The same reflects deliberation on part of the complainant to get issued summons to him in capacity of witness for sensation or otherwise."
Singhvi had moved the court in January seeking direction for withdrawal of the summons to him. In his plea, he had said he "he has no connection with the complainant or the present complaint case."
"The applicant upon receiving the summons made enquiries as to the nature of the complaint and on getting the record inspected, wishes to state that he does not know the complainant nor is he in any way connected with the institution of the present complaint," Singhvi had told the court in his application.
"Even in the status report filed by the police there is no reference to him," he added in his application for withdrawal of summons, issued by the court of erstwhile Kamla Market Metropolitan Magistrate Tyagita Singh, who has since been transferred to another court.
While dismissing Satbir's plea for registration of criminal case against team Anna for allegedly instigating the public against the government during his anti-graft campaign, the court had allowed him to lead evidence in support of his allegations.
