The creative head of an advertisement agency was found dead in his Chittaranjan Park flat in Southeast Delhi under mysterious circumstances on Tuesday.
Neighbours found Sandip Basu (43), the creative head with Innocean Worldwide, the in-house creative agency for Korea’s Hyundai Motors, dead on his bedroom floor.
The police said he had suffered head injuries. Basu was unmarried and lived alone.
“Prima facie it seems that Basu slipped and fell on the floor which caused him to lose consciousness and he suffered internal haemorrhage. There is also a possibility that he might have suffered a heart attack and then hit his head when he fell,” said a senior police officer on the condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to media.
“But we are still waiting for the post mortem report.”
According to his neighbour, Basu came home around 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
“I met him briefly. Around 9:30 p.m. my wife told him that his water pump was still on. I called him up on his cellphone and landline but he did not pick it. The next morning my wife told me that the pump was still on. I got suspicious and called our RWA present,” said K.K. Nagar, Basu’s neighbour.
The father and brother of the dceased have flown in from Tata Nagar in Jamshedpur.
His father S.T. Basu said, “I do not know what happened. I was informed about the incident by the police. But we do not suspect any foul play.”
Basu joined Innocean Worldwide in 2007 and had close to 14 years of experience working with agencies such as Leo Burnett, Mudra, Arms and Hakuhodo and Percept.
He had won a number of awards at Asian Power 2003, a Bronze at the New York Fest, and bagged the 'Campaign of the Year 2006' award for WagonR.
