Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit is under extra security for the next 72 hours.
The police on Saturday received a call from an anonymous woman informing that the CM’s life was under danger.
The police said an unidentified ‘middle aged’ woman called the emergency control room number in the evening and claimed that there was a “threat” to the life of Dikshit, who enjoys 'Z+' security cover.
The police have beefed up security at her 3, Motilal Nehru Marg residence and increased the number of officers in her security detail. The security agencies have been advised to remain vigilant till the source of the call is traced.
The Chief Minister's political secretary Pawan Khera said Dikshit continued with her daily routine and there were no changes whatsoever.
The police have handed over the case to the Special Cell and registered a case against unknown persons.
“The Special Cell is trying to identity of the caller," said a senior police officer on condition of anonymity, as he is not authorized to speak to the media. He refused to give information on whether any arrests or detentions have been made.
Delhi police sources said they were not taking any chances in the matter. An additional control room van has been stationed at the CM’s residence and more commandos added to her detail, the officer said. More police officers in plainclothes have been deployed, he added.
The police said the number, from which the call was made, was lost by its owner and was reportedly picked up by some ‘mischievous’ person.
Reacting to the reports, Dikshit said, “I do not have any fear. I am not worried also."
When asked if she would like to have enhanced security, she said, “It is not my duty. Actually I wanted to cut down security.”
