Two senior functionaries of the Delhi Police have received telephonic threats of terrorist attacks on the lines of the September 7 Delhi high court blast.
The calls came at their respective office numbers. According to sources, the special commissioner of police as well as a joint commissioner got these calls within minutes of each other on Thursday evening.
In both cases, the caller introduced himself as an operator of the Harkat-ul-Jihadi-al-Islami (HuJI) and threatened to target the Qutub Minar and Surya Hotel in New Friends Colony. He also warned of terrorist strikes at the Taj Hotel in Bangalore and undisclosed locations in Mumbai and Hyderabad.
“A bomb blast in front of the high court rocked Delhi a few days ago. Now, if you want to save your city from another major bomb blast, ask the delegation from Saudi Arabia that has come for recruitments to go back immediately. You should also release both the persons you have arrested from cyber cafés,” the caller is said to have told the two police officers.
Both the calls came from the number 8212432884, which is understood to have been procured and operated from Mysore in Karnataka, said sources from the Special Cell.
“We have already set things in motion as far as tracing the caller is concerned. The Mysore Police have been intimated and are investigating the matter,” said a senior officer of the Special Cell.
The caller is also said to have told the two officers that the Saudi Arabian delegation is scheduled to be in India for 22 days—from September 15 till October 6—and will visit several cities including Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Mumbai for recruiting people for various vacancies in the Gulf.
