The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has withheld the results of PhD in forensic sciences. On Tuesday, the institute made public, the results of all successful PhD candidates, barring selected candidates who had applied in forensic sciences.
Suspecting foul play in the decision an angry faculty member said, “They have decided to withhold it and not cancel it. This ensures that Sailesh Yadav is still in the race, despite the fact that he was disqualified by the interviewees.”
Two senior faculty members of the department of forensic sciences at AIIMS – additional professor Dr R.K. Sharma and associate professor Dr Sudhir Gupta – who were part of an interview board to select candidates for PhD degree, had in an official letter to sub-dean on Saturday complained of a suspected paper leak.
The controversy arose when AIIMS's deputy director (administration) Shailesh Yadav's application for PhD in forensic sciences was cleared by AIIMS director Dr T.D. Dogra, even though he did not have the basic qualifications.
As per AIIMS laws, for eligibility into a PhD in forensic sciences programme, an MSc degree in a subject allied to medical sciences or an MBBS is required. Yadav, an IPS officer on deputation to AIIMS, holds a MA in history, culture and archaeology.
