The much-awaited Airport Express Line is likely to miss the Commonwealth Games deadline.
Reliance Infrastructure Limited, the company implementing the the project on public-private partnership basis with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, is yet to get receive any clearance from Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) for the line.
Sources said Reliance Infrastructure has not been able to conduct “speed trials” on the section so far.
Trains will run at a speed of 130 kilometre per hour on the
22.69-kilometre corridor that will connect New Delhi Railway Station with the Indira Gandhi International Airport and Dwarka Sector 21.
The CMRS, who had inspected the line between Monday and Wednesday, has asked for clarifications regarding certain
deficiencies observed in the line, a DMRC spokesperson said.
“We have forwarded the (CMRS) findings to Reliance Infrastructure and have asked them to urgently comply with the requirements of the CMRS,” he said.
“We are confident that despite unavoidable delays and with the support of DMRC we will shortly commence operations of the world class Delhi AirportExpress,” said Reliance Infra spokesperson.
He, however, could not make it clear whether it could sort out the operational problems soon and launch the service.
