Flyers will again be allowed to check in at the Airport Metro Express New Delhi station. The subsidiary of Reliance Infrastructure given the charge of running the utility has brought back the facility, considered a USP, after a gap of eight months.
This time, however, the facility will be available for 14 hours — between 6am and 8pm. Earlier, passengers could avail the facility between 5am and 9pm.
Before the utility was closed for repairs, flyers could check in at New Delhi and Shivaji Stadium stations. But now, they can do so only at the New Delhi station. Officials, however, assured that the facility would soon be extended to other stations.
“To avail of this service, flyers have to check in a minimum of two hours or a maximum of eight hours before their flights depart,” said an official, adding that the facility is only available to those flying with Air India and Jet Airways.
“Talks are on with other airlines that have international services from the Delhi airport to set up check-in counters at Metro Airport Express stations,” said a spokesperson of the company that manages the utility. Sources said that Indigo and SpiceJet airlines were likely to introduce their check-in services at the station soon.
The facility at Airport Metro stations will benefit domestic and international passengers, who can hand over their luggage well in advance and utilise their time as they like. This will be immensely helpful for up-country passengers who wish to catch international flights.
Facilities such as cloak rooms, trolleys, porters and radio cabs are available at the stations for commuters and flyers. Baggage check-in facility for both passengers will help in hassle free travel, said the spokesperson.
