BJP’s Vijay Jolly and Dharam Dev Solanki were roughed up physically by furious ticket hopefuls on Sunday. And perhaps it was all the drama that can be blamed for the party’s inability to bring out its list in time on Sunday.
Sources said that the BJP could not finalise all the 272 candidates and did not want to release an incomplete list. It also decided to inform finalised candidates over the phone to avoid unrest. “Most of the candidates have been told over the phone to file nominations on Monday. Many sitting councillors have lost their seats,” said a source.
A Delhi BJP election committee member told HT that Chandolia had told off by Naidu for his involvement in fighting for seats with other leaders. “In tears, Chandolia told them that he was just trying to stop some leaders from fighting and that Naidu and other leaders assumed that he was also part of the fight,” said the member.
Meanwhile, angry over ticket distribution, party workers roughed up Jolly and Solanki outside Naidu’s residence when they are going to attend the election committee meeting. Jolly later on told the media that such indiscipline will not tolerated and appropriate action will be taken against such party workers.
With the delay in the list, Monday is expected to witness a lot of rush in the state party offices with all 272 contestants each of Congress and BJP filing nominations on a single day.
