Twelve days after the battered two-year-old was brought to AIIMS trauma centre on January 18, the condition of the baby continues to remain critical. Doctors treating her, however, say though she hasn’t improved, her condition hasn’t deteriorated either.
“If she does not improve within the next couple of days, the chances of her acquiring ventilator-related complications such as pneumonia, septicemia and various infections will increase manifold,” said a senior doctor. “Her age is working against her as she is weak and not responding too well,” he added.
On Friday, the baby had briefly opened her eyes, moved her neck, legs and arms and shows signs of improvement. The forensic team at AIIMS is examining the bite marks on the baby’s body and a gynaecologist has examined her for sexual assault. Both are yet to report their findings to the authorities.
