Rajkumar, the key link in efforts to trace the parents of the battered baby fighting for life at the AIIMS trauma centre, remained elusive for the second consecutive day.
Four Delhi Police teams, including those in Mumbai, spent Sunday trying to track down the 22-year-old taxi driver, but drew a blank.
Rajkumar is the boyfriend of the 14-year-old girl who brought the two-year-old baby to the AIIMS trauma centre on January 18. He had offered to surrender but changed his mind when Delhi Police teams reached Mumbai on Saturday.
“Rajkumar’s house has been put on surveillance and many of his family members are being questioned about his whereabouts. We will get him soon,” said a Delhi Police officer.
In the AIIMS neurosurgery ICU, the condition of the baby girl showed no signs of improvement. Doctors said she was critical but stable. While her vital parameters were fine, the chances of survival appeared slim.
The baby had been admitted with severe head injuries, brain damage, broken arms and human bite marks.
The right half of her brain had developed blood clots, which were removed in an emergency surgery on January 18.
