Starting Wednesday, be prepared for a chaotic drive on the city roads during the three-day visit of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao.
Movement of regular traffic on Thursday will be restricted on many arterial roads in the city. Delhi Traffic Police have asked all commuters to keep 15-20 extra minutes in hand to reach their destinations on time. “Try and use the Metro and other mode of public transport to avoid inconvenience,” said a senior official.
Both carriageways of each of the arterial roads that will be used by Wen will be closed, said Satyendra Garg, joint commissioner of police (traffic). On Thursday at 9.30am, Wen will be given ceremonial reception at the Rastrapati Bhawan.
At 10am, he will go to Rajghat. His movement during morning hours might cause inconvenience to officer-goers who take the Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Rajghat, Delhi Gate or ITO. People should avoid these roads during morning hours, officials said. At 11.30am, he will visit Hyderabad House for a meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.Traffic congestions are expected at India Gate, Rajpath, Ashok Road, Kasturba Gandhi Marg on Thursday afternoon."During afternoon, traffic movement at India Gate will be changed for 30 minutes when vehicles coming from Rajpath will move to inner circle of India Gate and exit from Tilak Marg.
