The BJP will hold jan panchayats across the country against price rise in the week leading up to the Allahabad High Court’s Ayodhya title suit verdict due on September 25. The announcement has led to speculations that this is an attempt to reach out to people before the verdict.
“Much heat is likely to be generated over the impending verdict at that time,” a senior BJP leader conceded. “The party feels it should reach out to cadres so as to manage them well at such a time.”
But another leader said it was better to have anti-inflation programmes just before the verdict, as, once out, it could throw inflation out of the news.
Clearly, even as it is unsure whether the Ram Janmabhumi issue still retains its appeal and cautiously avoids controversy on a matter that is sub judice, the BJP still believes that the issue has long-term potential.
BJP patriarch L.K. Advani — who had asked partymen to refrain from commenting on the issue till the verdict is out — recalled in his blog on Sunday, and announced that he would visit Somnath, from where he began the 1990 Rath Yatra, a day after the verdict.
Despite his subdued tones on the issue, his visit is likely to gain attention.
The RSS and the VHP, however, have been speaking in favour of a temple irrespective of the judgment.
Announcing that the Jan Panchayats would be on the lines of traditional panchayats, BJP Vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said on Monday that top party leaders, MPs and commoners from all sections of the society would sit together to discuss the overnment’s failures to control price rise in district centres, tehsils and Blocks across states.
Kalyan to march to Ayodhya on Sept 16
Even as the UP government beefs up security arrangements to maintain law and order following verdict on September 24, former chief minister Kalyan Singh on Monday announced to visit to Ayodhya to have darshan of Ram Lala on September 16.
Blasting BJP for deceiving the people on Ram temple movement, Singh has now extended support to Vishwa Hindu Parishad on the issue.
