If you look distressed, tense or are found to be strolling in a Metro station aimlessly, you might attract some eyes, which will profile you. A group of passenger profiling experts may be deployed in Delhi metro stations before the Commonwealth Games.
It was learnt from sources that the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), responsible for metro passengers’ security, has joined hands with a Europe-based agency to train security personnel deployed in the Delhi Metro.
The special security training on personal profiling will start from September, said sources.
When contacted, Rohit Katiyar, CISF spokesperson, said: “We have already conducted a similar training programme for our men deployed at IGI Airport. Now training will be conducted for jawans deployed in Metro stations.”
“This is a unique exercise through which we profile passengers based on behaviour pattern recognition and check out their body language. This is a safety measure followed worldwide in airports and Metro systems,” he said.
Presently, CISF men give only a ‘careful’ glance to each passenger entering the stations and then let most of them go in. This training will teach them about scientific techniques of the expression profiling.
CISF jawans have caught a number of criminals through expression profiling of passengers at the IGI Airport. Recently the CISF women’s intelligence wing arrested five women pickpockets from the Kashmiri Gate Metro Station through profiling.
A CISF official said: “Every passenger has to pass through a metal detector. Manual checking of every passenger is in deed impossible. Personal profiling experts will keep their eyes on every passenger without letting them know. If they find anyone looking suspicious will immediately be taken for a manual frisk and also may be detained for interrogation.”
“Anyone looking suspicious is immediately asked to undergo a manual frisk. Our men posted are specially trained in passenger profiling,” he said.
