‘Bihar’s demand for special status being studied’

She was reacting to a HT report “Bihar may get funds but not special status” in which her letter to Rajasthan government was quoted to say that as per the existing criteria special status can be granted only to hill states.

The story was about why Bihar may not get special status and some of the reasons were elaborated in her letter.

“The backward states can get additional central assistance for sectors facing backwardness but not special status,” she had said in her communication to Rajasthan.

Khullar said that Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar had met Planning Commission deputy chairperson Montek Singh Ahluwalia on December 18 and discussed issues including Bihar Special Plan and Special Status.
