“If you have black money stashed away in foreign land, why don’t you get it back? If you are not corrupt, why don’t you set up a Lokpal, Pradhan Mantriji?” Yoga guru Baba Ramdev put this poser amid loud sloganeering.
Liberally sprinkled with Haryanavi phrases and usage, Ramdev’s speech evoked huge response from the gathering, mostly his supporters, part of his Bharat Swabhiman Andolan.
Maulana Kalbe Sadiq Barelvi too drew huge response. Referring to the perceived controversy over taking names or not taking the names of corrupt politicians, he said, “We are here for the nation. Hamare beech matbhed ho sakta hai, manobhed nahi (There can be disagreements between us, but not rift).”
He went on: “Aaj secularism ki itni zaroorat nahi, jitni nationalism ki hai (Today, the need is more of nationalism, not of secularism).” After listing out the corruption charges against UPA ministers and elaborating on the coal-gate scam, IAC member Arvind Kejriwal demanding an inquiry through an independent agency, not under the prime minister.
He offered that team Anna to be probed too. “If found guilty, we are ready for double punishment. But please have an independent agency to probe these allegations,” he asserted.
Dalit leader Udit Raj, who had taken out separate rallies earlier, clarified: “We are very much a part of this agitation. Our only belief is that the SCs/STs, Dalits and underprivileged people are important stakeholders and they should not be ignored in the fight against corruption.”
Earlier, Hazare exhorted people to bring parivartan (change) in the country. “We need village development for bringing that change. Development should not be exploitation, but proper usage. Only then can corruption stop.”
He exhorted people with: “Now that the battery is charged, be prepared for another round of fight against corruption.”
Ramdev announced people to give a ‘missed call’ to 022-33081122 to get updates about the movement.
