Faced with a medical emergency! You won't have to run around from one blood bank to another, as it would be available at just a click of a mouse.
The union ministry of health and family welfare, in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society, is considering a project to create an online database of blood donors in the country.
"It can be a harrowing experience to find a matching blood donor, especially if it is a rare blood group that one is looking for. The move will make it easier to arrange blood during an emergency," said PK Pradhan, Union health secretary.
"We have a tech-savvy youth for whom it should not be difficult to manage the website," added Pradhan, while speaking on the occasion of World Red Cross Day, in the Capital on Tuesday.
Apart from creating the database of blood donors, the government also plans to have a list of interested organ donors handy and interact with them through the volunteers on a regular basis. "It is very important to stay connected with people willing to donate organs. They must receive the necessary motivation from time to time. The Red Cross volunteers can play a key role here," said Pradhan.
The government is also creating a list of people who have left their TB medication mid-way.
