This despite the National Green Tribunal imposing a nationwide ban on the burning of bulk waste in open spaces in December 2016, and imposing a fine of Rs 25,000 for any violation. HT found rampant waste burning in Kanti Nagar and Vishwas Nagar.

Air pollution data in the capital is currently taken from 28 monitoring stations – four run by Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), eight by the Met department and the rest by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
