Four government officials, including two engineers of Air Force and an assistant commissioner and inspector of EPFO, have been arrested by CBI in two different cases for allegedly accepting bribe.
In the first case, RJ Kukkar, assistant garrison engineer (contract) and ST Patil, junior engineer, Air Force, Ojhar, Nasik (Maharashtra) were arrested for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a complaint.
"It was alleged in the complaint of a contractor that the accused persons demanded bribe of Rs 70,000 for clearance of his bill payments. The CBI laid a trap and both the accused persons were caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant at Nasik," CBI spokesperson said in New Delhi on Thursday.
In the other case, the agency sleuths arrested an assistant commissioner and inspector of EPFO for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000.
The two have been identified as Nandanwar, assistant commissioner and Mughliyar, inspector -- both employees of Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), Vapi (Gujarat).
It was alleged in the complaint that the duo demanded Rs 75,000 from the complainant as illegal gratification for disposal of an official notice.
"The Inspector, instead of doing his duty, harassed the complainant by frequently calling him to his office and demanding irrelevant records. Initially they demanded Rs 75,000 but after negotiations the bribe amount was reduced to Rs 30,000.
"A trap was laid and the Inspector was caught red handed accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 on behalf of both the officials at Dadra Resort at Dadra and Nagar Haveli," the CBI official added.
