CBI raids at Delhi Police station
After the raids CBI arrests a sub inspector of Delhi Police for allegedly demanding and accepting Rs 25,000 as bribe from a complainant.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a sub inspector of Delhi Police for allegedly demanding and accepting Rs 25,000 as bribe from a complainant after conducting raids at a police station in west Delhi.
Vipin Kumar, posted at Paschim Vihar police station, was arrested late on Wednesday inside the police station premises, while the station house officer (SHO) and assistant commissioner of police (ACP) managed to flee.
The CBI also recovered six illegal firearms, six mobile phones, 200 gm of marijuana and cash worth Rs 60,000 from a room designated to Kumar in the police station.
According to CBI officials, the raids were conducted after the victim in his complaint to the agency alleged that Kumar had demanded Rs 200,000 from him after implicating him in a false case of vehicle theft.
"The victim was asked to negotiate the bribe money with the sub-inspector and the matter was settled on the sum of Rs 25,000. We arrested Kumar red-handed while accepting the bribe money from the victim," a CBI official said.
"We are also probing senior officials' role in the case and appropriate action will taken after primary investigations," the CBI official added.
However, Kumar denied all allegations against him.
"I have done no wrong and was wrongly framed by some envious officials," Kumar said while he was taken into CBI custody.
Kumar was booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act, the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Act and the Arms Act.
The Delhi Police remained tight-lipped on Kumar's arrest.
