The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which named seven policemen as accused in its first chargesheet in the Ishrat Jahan encounter case, will file two supplementary chargesheets.
“We may file two supplementary charge sheets in the Ishrat case. One will be filed this month and will unravel the roles of those persons, including a retired Intelligence Bureau official, who had conspired to orchestrate the fake encounter,” said a CBI source. The source said, “We may also give details on the identities of two of the deceased, Amjad Ali and Jishan Johar, and the motive behind the encounter.” The CBI is yet to get any clue on the identity of Amjad and Jishan, while it is still ascertaining the encounter’s motive.
The source said, “The second supplementary charge sheet, to be filed after August, will focus on aspects including the tapes carrying purported conversations of Gujarat government officials discussing ways to save accused in the case, which was given to us by a key accused police official. We will soon conduct forensic tests on the tapes.”
The probe has, meanwhile, established that a firearm of 9 mm calibre was used in the encounter that is yet to be recovered. “Two bullets were fired from it — part of a bullet was recovered from Ishrat’s clothes while the other was found on Amjad’s body,” said the source.
