Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has said that the Centre wanted to take over the anti-corruption branch (ACB) of Delhi, fearing that it would file a case against a Union minister.
Kejriwal said a number of senior ministers and BJP leaders had told him that there were apprehensions in this regard.
“(Najeeb) Jung changed the ACB chief on June 8 all of a sudden without informing me, secretly and without giving any reason. That’s because they (Centre) thought we were going to lodge an FIR against a Cabinet Minister of which we had no intention,” Kejriwal said in an interview to the India Today group.
A heated turf war has been going on over the jurisdiction of the ACB between the BJP-led Centre and the AAP government in Delhi. The Union home ministry had issued a notification that the ACB has no jurisdiction when it comes to cases involving central government officers. The Delhi government had moved the Delhi high court against the notification and the matter is now pending before the Supreme Court.
The Delhi chief minister also described as “biased” the media reports about the allocation of Rs 526 core in the state budget for publicity.
Kejriwal conceded that his former law minister Jitender Singh Tomar “misled” him over the latter’s law degree. He said he asked Tomar to resign the day the ex-minister was arrested.
However, he also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of targeting AAP MLAs. “The Delhi Police is working at the behest of Modi and the AAP MLAs are the victims of pick and choose policy of the Modi government,” he said.
He also blamed the PM for the stalemate between his government and the L-G. “Everybody knows that Najeeb Jung cannot dare to act without the directions from Centre. Najeeb Jung is acting on Modi’s behest and he is putting obstacles in our way.”
