The number of dengue cases in the city may not be as high as the previous years, but the civic agencies are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the Delhiites stay safe.
The civic agencies are organising workshops to sensitise members of various Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), government and nodal officers about vector-borne diseases.
“We have involved schools in a big way and are using children to spread the key message that one should not let water
stagnate around residential and office areas. Such swamps become a breeding ground for mosquitoes,” said a senior health official with the unified municipal corporation of Delhi.
The civic agencies also regularly undertake measures to remove larve in all of the city’s 12 zones. “We spray chemicals once in a week to kill the eggs. Fogging is also carried out to kill the mosquitoes,” added the official.
As compared to 60 dengue cases around this time of the year, so far, only 11 people have been reported infected with the disease. However, 132 cases of malaria have come to fore.
