Delhiites can now get high-security registration plates fixed in their old cars and two-wheelers from May 2.
Rosmerta Technologies, the company authorised to fix secured number plates on vehicles in Delhi, will start operating 15 new centres in different parts of the city.
“We will add 10 more centres subsequently. Though our focus initially will be on vehicles registered between 2009 and 2012 and vehicle owners will be given time up to three-four months to get the plates, we will also fix plates simultaneously on vehicles registered before 2009,” said Karn V Nagpal, vice-president, Rosmerta Technologies Limited.
Nagpal said the company can now produce 24,000 number plates daily.
“Our centres will remain open seven days a week from 9am to 7pm. The vehicle owners will have to produce a copy of the registration certificate and valid insurance while booking the plates. The plates will be fixed after 3-4 days,” Nagpal said.
High-security number plates were made mandatory in Delhi from May 1, 2012. While the company initially had to fix number plates on vehicles registering after April 30, 2012 it was supposed to start fixing plates on older vehicles from June 15, 2012. The company was given two years to complete the exercise.
With enhanced production capacity and more centres Nagpal said they will able to fix plates on all vehicles within one-and-a-half years.
Apart from these 25 new centres, the company has proposed to depute its men at automobile dealerships, vehicle service workshops and station mobile vans at group housing societies. Delhi transport minister Ramakant Goswami said his team of officers is looking into the proposal.
“The company claims that it can cover 21 lakh vehicles if it is allowed to operate at authorised service centres. By deploying 20 mobile vans the company can cover another 13 lakh vehicles in one year. If it deputes its teams at some major automobile dealers, the company can cover another 11.25 lakh vehicles every year. This way the company can fix plates in 45 lakh more vehicles in just a year’s time,” Goswami said.
