The Bhartaiya Janata Party (BJP) and Bhujan Samaj Party (BJP attacked the Congress government in Haryana on Tuesday, charging the state government with “unlawful” release of acquired land in Ullahawas village in Gurgaon to the Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust.
This happened a day after the Punjab and Haryana high court questioned the state government over the alleged leasing of land to the trust after the issuance of a notification to acquire 1,417 acres of land.
“Land proposed to be acquired was given on lease to Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust. During the pendency of acquisition, a lease was created in favour of this trust. And then the land was released from acquisition. Some other land was released to builders,” said senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley. “There cannot be two standards for Bhatta-Parsaul and Ullahawas. People in influential places cannot use state power to acquire land from farmers and release it in their favour.”
Jaitley then added, “Congress will have to come clean on this. Who are the people in this trust? Those who have benefited must come clean.”
Asked what he thought of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's praise of the Haryana model of land acquisition in the light of Ullahawas, Jaitley said, "To be fair to him, I think he has been referring to the annuity model of Haryana. That's a model that should be looked at seriously. I hope he didn't have the Ullahawas model in mind, because that's a nightmare model."
Under fire from the Congress over land acquisition in Bhatta-Parsual for quite some time, the BSP too was quick to seize this opportunity to hit out at the government.
A release from the BSP said, “The dual character of Congress that has been delivering sermons to the Uttar Pradesh government over small issues has come out now… On the one hand the Haryana government claims it has the best land acquisition model, and on the other it throws all laws to the wind to give land to a particular trust.”
