A construction worker stabbed a 30-year old lady doctor at her Sector 47 house on Sunday evening after she refused to pay him his remuneration, police said.
Dr Nividita Kumar — with stab wounds on her neck, hand and stomach — was rushed to a private hospital in Sector 51. Her condition is reported to be critical.
The neighbours caught the 22-year-old worker, Ganga Sagar, as he was trying to escape from the locality. The people beat him up, police said. He too was rushed to a private hospital for treatment.
Kumar runs a clinic in Sector 17 and is the mother of one child. Her husband Suresh Kumar is an engineer with a private firm.
According to police, construction work was underway at the first floor of house no. 480 owned by Dr Nividita.
“The construction worker asked for Rs 200, saying he was returning to his native village, Dhaulpur, tomorrow (Monday). On being refused, Sagar attacked Kumar with a dagger and stabbed her thrice on the neck, hands and stomach but was overpowered by the neighbours,” a police official said. Not authorized to talk to the media, the policeman requested anonymity.
Eyewitness and Kumars’ neighbour Dinesh Kumar said it was around 7.00 p.m. when he was passing by the house that he heard Kumar scream.
“As I rushed into the house, I saw her lying in a pool of blood. Her husband was away. We rushed her to Artemis with the help of others,” Dinesh, who is also the president of Sector 47 RWA, said.
