Three incensed men thrashed a 28-year-old Traffic police constable and fled with a motorcycle which the latter had seized and was taking to the area's traffic pit on Wednesday evening. The motorcycle belongs to one of the three accused. Police said constable Suresh Singh, posted at south Delhi's Mehrauli traffic circle, was attacked near the Saket metro station around 10:15pm.
"The traffic police were conducting a drive against drunken driving near Asian Market on MB Road when they spotted and stopped one Lakshman, a resident of Madangir area, for checking," said a senior police officer.
The vehicle, police said, was seized by Singh when Lakshman couldn't produce the requisite documents. Singh was then directed to submit the seized vehicle at the Lado Sarai traffic pit and he left the spot, police said.
"But near Saket metro station, the constable, who was being chased, was stopped by some men. When he resisted, he was attacked with a hemlet," the officer said. Singh lost control of the vehicle and fell off the bike.
