With ex-Haryana minister Gopal Kanda still on the run, Delhi Police are now facing difficulties in gathering evidence too. Sources said this was due to the fact that computers at MDLR's office in Gurgaon were tampered with.
According to police, the series of emails exchanged between Kanda and Geetika Sharma and data in the computer was the most crucial evidence.
Police said that since Kanda was absconding, attempts had been made to destroy company (MDLR) records. "We are trying to recover evidence with the help of Aruna Chaddha, HR manager of MDLR, who is in our custody," a senior police officer said.
Delhi Police have recovered records of MDLR group's Sundale Educational Society of which Sharma was president and Chaddha secretary. Chadha also told police about another subsidiary, AKG Infrabuild Society, of which Geetika was the vice president.
"Geetika was the vice president of AKG while Chaddha was its director. We still have to recover documents pertaining to it from the Registrar of Societies and confront Chaddha with them," said the officer.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police have also written to the Ministry of External Affairs for ascertaining the authenticity of the mails, purportedly sent by Dubai authorities and the Consulate General of India, pertaining to the extradition proceedings against Sharma in Dubai. The mails were circulated by Sharma's family, who claimed that Kanda used to harass her by sending emails.
Police also recovered an email written by Sharma to Chaddha where she had said, "I will build my career on my own... no matter how many obstacles one puts in my way."
On Monday too, police failed to trace Kanda despite various raids being conducted in Gurgaon, Sirsa and Faridabad.
Police have already seized Sharma's i-phone and laptop, but data has not been retrieved so far. Sharma hung herself in her Ashok Vihar house on August 5. She had blamed Kanda and Chaddha for the extreme step in her suicide note. Her autopsy report on Friday confirmed that there was no foul play and she died due to hanging.
Statements of MDLR employees confirmed that Kanda was close to Sharma and had put a chair in her cabin, where he used to sit most of the time.
