Not just missing persons, vehicles or valuables, the Delhi Police are serious about tracing missing or stolen animals too.
A team of central district police is making efforts to search three goats and a sheep which were allegedly stolen from near a cemetery in the press area, close to ITO.
The animals, a police officer said, were reportedly stolen on the intervening night of October 5 and 6 from near the cemetery. Though police claimed to have arrested two persons who had allegedly stolen the animals, they are finding it difficult to trace the stolen cattle even after the thieves told them that they had sold the cattle in northeast Delhi's Jafarabad.
“They confessed that they stole the cattle and sold it for Rs 45,000 to an animal trader in Jafarabad market. We are
having difficulty in tracing the stolen animals because that animal trader sold them further to unknown customers, who bought the goats keeping in mind the soaring rates of goats during the approaching Bakri Eid festival,” added a senior officer.
The arrested persons have been identified as Mohammad Amir alias Nanhe and Mohammad Fateh, both in their early 20s. Police are looking for a third accused, who had used his tempo to ferry the stolen animals to Jafarabad.
According to the officer, the incident came to light after the owner of the animals, identified as Mohammad Irdish, 45, lodged a complaint regarding the matter. On the basis of Idrish's complaint, a case under sections 380 (theft) and 34 (common intention) was registered at the IP Estate police station.
"Idrish complained to the police that he fed his cattle on the night of October 5 but found them missing when he woke up the next morning. He told police that he frantically searched for them but could not find them. Later he approached the IP Estate police station and lodged his complaint," said the officer.
