A prompt action by Delhi Police personnel saved lives of three youths who met with an accident near Yamuna Sports Complex in east Delhi.
The incident took place in the wee hours of Sunday when a Honda Accord car, in which the three men were travelling, rammed into a tree and caught fire.
“The car turned turtle and caught fire after hitting a tree. All the occupants got trapped inside the car. We were patrolling in the area and rushed there to save them. We somehow managed to evacuate all of them,” head constable Mohan Lal said.
Apart from Lal, constable Prem Pal Singh and driver Yoginder Kumar also played an important role in the rescue operation.
The occupants of the car have been identified as Ashish Garg, owner of a software company, Sahil Kalra, who runs a travel firm and Akshat Garg. Ashish, who was driving the car, praised the cops for saving him and his friends.
“I was scared to see myself trapped in a car which had caught fire. At 3.45am, you don’t expect anyone to come and save you. We had lost all hope. But within seconds, we saw three men in uniform near the car, trying to save us,” said Ashish.
Ashish said his car skidded after he applied brakes to save a dog. All the three occupants escaped unhurt.
“Yoginder had minor injuries in his hands. But at the end of the day, we all are satisfied that we saved three lives,” 49-year-old Lal said.
“They have done a great job and a reward for this effort will be announced soon,” said GC Dwivedi, additional CP (PCR).
