A Delhi Traffic head constable, who was allegedly in an inebriated condition, misbehaved with a couple after his patrol motorcycle hit their scooter in Rani Bagh, Northwest Delhi, on Sunday night.
The incident occurred around 10 pm near Rani Bagh Chowk, police said.
The couple — Nayak Kumar and wife Monika — were coming from Madhuban Chowk side on their scooter, police said. On the way, according to the police, the couple allegedly jumped a traffic signal. Two traffic cops asked them to stop.
“Ignoring their request the couple kept on moving towards their destination,” said a senior police officer. “The cops had intercepted the scooter after giving a chase when Nayak lost control of the two-wheeler and the two fell from the vehicle. The police asked them to pay a fine which led to a heated argument.”
The couple, however, claimed head constable Kailash Chand was drunk and manhandled the woman and tore her clothes.
“The police hit our scooter due to which we fell down. My husband’s helmet smashed. They asked us to pay a fine. When I objected saying he was under the influence of liquor the police personnel started misbehaving with us,” Monika said.
“The PCR reached the spot and took the cops away saying they would subject him to medical test,” Monica alleged and added no action was taken against Chand. No case has been registered.
