Delhi continued to be on a short fuse, as yet another incident of road rage came to light on Tuesday.
Three people roughed up a couple and went on to allegedly molest the woman in the posh Vasant Vihar area of south Delhi. The couple was on their way to Mehrauli on a bike when car rashly overtook them on the Shaheed Jeet Singh Marg, missing them by an inch. But, when they found the car at the next traffic light, they complained to the driver, which triggered the blind rage.
"We were driving towards a dargah in Mehrauli on Friday evening when a Maruti 800 car overtook us and nearly hit my bike. I somehow managed to control the bike and saw same car at the next traffic light. I asked the driver to drive carefully but instead of apologising to us three people came out of the car and started beating me and my wife," Zuber Khan, 38, said.
The couple lives at Lal Kuan in old Delhi. "They first abused me and then started beating me. When my wife interfered, she also faced their ire. She has suffered head injuries," Khan added. Khan, who owns a construction company, said though a crowd gathered at the scene no one came forward to help them. The assailants fled the scene after Zuber called the police, leaving their car behind. The police traced the owners of the car and arrested Ashwani Sanswal, 25, his cousin Kuldeep, 28 and Ashwani's father Surendra, 44 — residents of Munirka village.
