The Delhi traffic police may play a party-pooper for many. The much sought-after Connaught Place (CP) will remain out of bounds for all motorists on the New Year's eve, police said. To maintain smooth flow of traffic in the area the movement of all kinds of vehicles will be restricted from 7pm onwards on Friday till next morning.
Those who want to go to CP after 7pm need to park their vehicles in the nearby areas and walk up to their destinations in each of three circles.
According to the traffic police, all vehicles will be stopped at roads before the outer circle. "The decision has been taken keeping in view the huge rush in the area as it houses several eating joints and pubs. Also, allowing the vehicles in CP will lead to severe parking crisis," joint commissioner of police (traffic) Satyendra Garg said. People can take alternative routes like Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Jawaharlal Nehru Marg to reach the Ajmeri Gate side of the New Delhi Railway Station.
"Limited parking places will be available near CP on first come first served basis," said the officer. Those living in CP would be permitted to enter the area after due verification. The police said they should carry papers to prove their identity and residence.
