After literally biting the dust the last time around, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is leaving nothing to chance this time.
Learning from their mistakes when the Capital hosted the cyclothon in August, the civic body has decided to wash all the streets before Sunday's cycling event in Connaught Place. This is the first time in the city that any civic body has undertaken the task of washing roads and pavements.
The NDMC deployed 150 men to wash and rewash the entire cycling and marathon track. Last time dust that got accumulated in the city, thanks to rampant digging and construction work, cyclists faced a host of problems.
This time the NDMC has deployed fire tenders and tankers to wash the streets. The areas being extensively cleaned are Outer Circle and Jantar Mantar. The clean up drive was started around 11:30 am on Saturday.
PK Sharma, medical officer for health at NDMC, said, “We cleaned the whole area by late evening. Also fogging of the whole route was done well in time.”
The NDMC had found some mud patches on the road following which the civic body undertook washing of the road.
