DDA for development along Metro corridors

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) plans to amend the Master Plan of Delhi (MPD) 2021 to boost residential, commercial and recreational development along transport corridors in the peripheral and outer fringes of the Delhi.
The DDA, which is currently reviewing the master plan 2021, plans to allow residential units along linear 'facility corridors' in the areas marked for urban extension in the Master Plan.
These facility corridors will link Metro stations and bus terminals in the peripheral regions. Though the existing master plan has provisions for commercial and recreational development along such corridors, the use was strictly non-residential. The DDA now proposes to include residential development in the list.
The proposal has already been approved by the committees reviewing the master plan and it has been put up for suggestions and objections from the public. Suggestions can be sent within the period of forty five days.
"Once the suggestions arrive, these will be discussed and the objections or suggestions would be incorporated if needed. The proposal will then be presented in the authority's meeting and sent to the Union urban development ministry for approval and notification," said a senior DDA official who did not wish to be named.
The proposal, after getting a final nod, is expected to hasten the growth of urban extension areas of Delhi. The move will help in development of areas such as Najafgarh, Burari, Ghitorni, Kanjhawla and Bawana. The plans is also aimed at preventing unintended and unplanned growth.
Though the proposal seems similar to the plans of creating transit-oriented development corridors in different parts of the capital, DDA officials said there was a slight difference between the two.
"As part of the transit-oriented development corridors, intense development is planned along Metro corridors with focus on maximum number of people using the mass transit system. In the proposal meant for urban extension, norms are being modified to allow residential development also, if someone wants to do it," the official said.
