The much-delayed verification process of allottees for the housing scheme of Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is nearly at its end. Successful allottees can now look forward to receiving demand letters in the first week of August.
DDA was to send verification letters to the nearly 16,000 allottees of its recent housing scheme by June 15 but due to delay in many cases, the deadline had to be extended to June 30.
The deadline was again extended to July 15, as verification of many allottees couldn’t be completed even by June 30. Verification letters are sent to allottees so they can furnish documents to prove their genuineness.
“The verification of all allottees is almost done now and we plan to start sending demand letters by the last week of July or first week of August,” said a senior DDA official who didn’t wish to be named.
The official said that the new, stringent norms set by the DDA this time resulted in the verification process taking longer than anticipated. “One of the fallouts of the strict norms has been the large number of cancellations by allottees,” the official said. Though official figures of cancellations were not available, the number is expected to be as high as 300.
After facing flak for delays in sending verification letters, the land development agency is now trying to ensure that there are no hiccups while dispatching demand letters.
Allottees found genuine will now receive demand-cum-allotment letters. Despite the extension of deadline for verification, DDA now hopes there would be no delays in the next phase.
After they get the demand letter, allottees have 90 days’ time to pay the whole amount of the flat. Allottees can also pay the amount in 180 days, but then will have to pay an interest. After 180 days, DDA would cancel the allotment of those who fail to pay the amount.
The process of getting possession of the flats will take two months after payment.
