Allottees of Delhi Development Authority’s (DDA) high-end flats in north Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar can finally heave a sigh of relief.
More than two years after being allotted flats in the multi-storey residential complex by DDA and exactly a year after they paid the whole amount, the owners of around 300 such flats were finally provided with water connections on Thursday.
The DDA had allotted 16,000 flats as part of its 2010 housing scheme and while most allottees got possession of their flats last year, many were yet to shift because their flats did not have basic amenities. In fact, allottees of Mukherjee Nagar flats have been spearheading protests against DDA for the delay.
“The flats were allotted in April 2011 and we got possession in April 2012 after paying the full amount,” said Dipak Kumar, an allottee. “We still do not have permanent power connections but thankfully, water supply has been started,” he said.
Though the Mukherjee Nagar flat allottees can now look forward to shifting to their own houses, those who have got flats in other areas, such as Vasant Kunj D-6, Dwarka sector 18-B, Jasola, are not so lucky.
The worst of the lot are the allottees of flats in Ganga block of Vasant Kunj D-6, who have not even got their demand letters yet.
“DDA is not even responding on when they would give possession of the flats. Though construction is not over in other blocks as well, the delay in case of Ganga block is inexplicable,” said an allottee, who didn’t wish to be named. “The condition in Dwarka Sector 18-B is worse. We made full payment in June 2012 and were compelled to take possession under threats of monthly maintenance charges,” said an allottee.
“There is no water or elevators at the flats. If DDA can charge penal interest for default or delay in payment, they should also pay interest on our payments,” he said.
